It’s no secret that Rough Creek is known as one of the best places to get married, but did you know it was also named one of the most romantic getaways by D Magazine? That’s right- there’s more to do at Rough Creek than hunt and ride horses. Rough Creek Lodge and Resort is a haven for newly married couples, and it’s the absolute perfect place to spend your honeymoon if you enjoy good food, delicious cocktails, and fun activities…and really, who doesn’t??
- Luxurious Accommodations
Rough Creek offers a variety of accommodations based on your needs, so you’re guaranteed to find the perfect place to stay based on the type of honeymoon you’re looking to have. Couples who want a more traditional honeymoon experience might choose to stay in the main lodge and enjoy amenities such as deep-soaking bathtubs, whereas those who want more privacy may prefer to rent out one of Rough Creek’s 4 cabins. But don’t think you have to “rough it” just because you’re staying in a cabin- these cabins come equipped with king-sized beds, fireplaces, and more. You get the luxury of the main cabin combined with the privacy of being out in nature. And finally, couples with a more adventurous spirit should definitely check out the “Glamping” accommodations. Rent out a 30-foot airstream camper and you’re guaranteed to make honeymoon memories that won’t soon be forgotten.
- Amazing dining
One of the few things that might be able to top the luxurious lodgings at Rough Creek is the amazing dining experience they offer. You may associate a lodge with outdoor barbecues and roasting s’mores over an open fire, and while there is plenty of that at Rough Creek, they also have an incredible restaurant that received a perfect 40 point score for the Award of Excellence. Chef Gerard Thompson curates the menu daily, so you can dine there every single night and never eat the same thing. He uses locally sourced meat and produce to create dishes with an upscale twist, such as: Red Chile Glazed Swordfish, Locally Raised Red Wattle Pig Sampler For Two, Premium Gold Angus Beef from the Wood Burning Grill, and more. Unlike many honeymoon destinations that offer sub-par food, at Rough Creek, the food is thoughtfully created every day with the guest’s preferences in mind, and it’s guaranteed never to disappoint.
- Activities for Him
There is no shortage of activities to keep a newlywed husband busy while honeymooning at Rough Creek. Whether you’re a hunter, fisherman, or golfer, there’s a huge variety of sports and activities that will absolutely keep you busy while your wife is relaxing by the pool or at the spa.
Hunting– Rough Creek offers several different hunting experiences, from upland bird and white-tailed deer to hog, duck, and turkey hunting. Take your pick and the staff at Rough Creek will set you up!
Shooting– If you want to handle a gun but hunting isn’t really your thing, no fear. Rough Creek also offers a variety of shooting sports, such as sporting clays, five stand, wobble trap, and 3 separate shooting ranges. Additionally, there is a 50-yard handgun range, a 100-yard multi-purpose range, as well as a 1,000-yard rifle range.
Toptracer– The Toptracer Range at Rough Creek is perfect for the husband who wants to relax and play a little golf without having to walk 18 holes in the Texas heat. Top Tracer uses the same technology to track the ball as they do in the pros, and Rough Creek’s state-of-the-art range leaves nothing to be desired.
- Activities for Her
While women are certainly welcome (and encouraged!) to participate in any of the above activities, Rough Creek also has some more low-key activities that might be more well-suited to a new bride who would prefer to relax after all the stress of wedding planning.
Spa– The spa at Rough Creek is actually perfect for couples as well; newlyweds can take advantage of a couple’s massage or sweetheart facial, and there’s plenty of services for men, too! But if you opt to do the spa alone, you’ll definitely want to experience the lavender bliss body treatment or the signature margarita pedicure- your toes are bathed in a tub of tequila and lime! It doesn’t get much more Texas than that!
Pool- Rough Creek has several different pools, one that’s “adults only” so you can sit in a shaded cabana and enjoy some poolside service without the noise that can be present at the family pool. Both pools are resort-style and have amenities such as a slide, a lazy river, shaded cabanas and poolside service so the only thing you have to think about is whether you want your margarita frozen or on the rocks.
- Opportunities for Couples Bonding
While there is certainly no shortage of activities for couples to partake in separately, it only makes sense that on your honeymoon you’d want to spend some time bonding with your significant other! Thankfully Rough Creek has PLENTY of couples-friendly activities for both the adventurous newlyweds and those who prefer to relax and enjoy the peace and nature of the resort.
Drive-in movie- the town of Granbury has one of the last drive-in movie theatres in all of Texas, so head there, grab some popcorn and snuggle up with your new spouse to enjoy this age-old tradition.
Team sports– Rough Creek offers many “team-building” activities- perfect for those newlyweds who want to test the limits of their relationship! Learn better communication and problem-solving skills while participating in a variety of obstacles set up in the “low ropes course” (offered only for groups). It will be an exciting challenge that you won’t soon forget!
Ziplining and Rock Climbing- both of these activities are perfect for couples seeing as how you definitely want someone at your back as you’re climbing a 40-foot climbing wall or zipping down the 675-foot zip line towards Mallard Lake!
Nature trails- for those who prefer a more slow-paced vacation, there are miles and miles of trails you can walk. Whether you bring a cup of coffee and enjoy the beautiful sunrise over the lake or you pack a picnic and a bottle of wine for a sunset meal, you’ll be able to unwind with the person you love the most.
Do you plan to honeymoon at Rough Creek? What activities are you looking forward to the most? Or for couples who have already honeymooned there- is there anything you think we should add to this list? We’d love to hear from you! Comment below!
